[Administration] KHU Announces Changes in Early Graduation Policy
On July 8, Kyung Hee University (KHU) Dept. of Academic Supporting Affairs at Office of Academic Affairs announced changes in early graduation policy. These new elements are to be implemented in the second semester of 2024.
According to KHU’s early graduation policy, students willing to graduate before completing eight semesters must have a 4.0 or higher total grade point average (GPA) and have received a 3.75 or higher GPA out of 4.3 in every semester.
Before the adjustment, grades before credit withdrawal or course repetition were included in the calculation of overall GPA. However, the reformed policy no longer considers them, which means only the final grades after the withdrawal or course repetition will count.
The school’s decision was based on the evaluation that KHU has a higher standard of early graduation than the other universities in Seoul. For instance, Korea University lowered the hurdle for early graduation last March by modulating a minimum GPA, expanding the range of courses available for withdrawal, and increasing the maximum number of credits during summer and winter sessions. In the case of Hanyang University, they have already been excluding the grades before the withdrawal or course repetition to expand students’ opportunities for early graduation.
The modified policy is expected to enhance the convenience of the students.
