[Campus] New Course Retake Rules to Take Effect from Spring 2026
Kyung Hee University has announced revisions to its course retake system, which will take effect starting from the Spring Semester of 2026. The revision includes changes to the eligibility criteria for course retakes, the maximum obtainable grade after retaking a course, and the period allowed for retake applications. As the course retake system directly affects students’ academic planning and grade management, the revised policy is likely to influence how students approach course registration and grade recovery.

Key Changes to the Course Retake System
The revised course retake system introduces three major changes. The eligible grades for course retakes will be adjusted. Under the previous system, students were allowed to retake courses in which they received a grade of B- or below. However, starting from the Spring Semester of 2026, this criterion will be tightened to C+ or below.
Another major revision concerns the maximum obtainable grade through a course retake. Previously, students could earn up to an A+ after retaking a course. Under the revised policy, the highest possible grade will be limited to A0. While retaking a course will still allow students to improve their grades, the extent of that improvement will now be clearly capped.
Lastly, the period allowed for retake applications will be expanded. The existing restriction, which limited retake applications to within four regular semesters after the initial completion of a course, will be abolished. Students will be able to apply for course retakes without any time limitation.
It is important to note that changes related to eligible grades for retakes and the maximum obtainable grade will apply only to grades earned from the Spring Semester of 2026 onward. Grades earned up to the Fall Semester of 2025 will continue to follow the previous standards.
Stricter Standards, Greater Flexibility
The revision is expected to change how students approach grade management. With a lower ceiling on grades obtainable through retakes, it will become more difficult to significantly boost a course grade by retaking it. This shift places greater emphasis on performing well during the initial enrollment.
At the same time, the removal of the time limit for retake applications may increase flexibility in academic planning. Students who experience interruptions in their studies due to leave of absence, exchange programs, or personal circumstances will be able to retake courses without being constrained by application deadlines.
With course registration for the Spring Semester 2026 scheduled to begin on February 3, students will encounter the revised course retake system during the upcoming registration period. By simultaneously tightening grade eligibility criteria and expanding the period allowed for retake applications, the revised system introduces a structure in which flexibility and stricter standards operate together. Students are expected to take both factors into account when planning their course schedules and managing their academic performance.
