[Campus] D-2: KHU Hosts Its First Ever Lion Match
The first university sports exchange event between Kyung Hee University (KHU) and Hanyang University (HYU) will be held at KHU Global Campus. In addition to sports matches, various spectator participation programs have been prepared to enhance the fun and excitement of the event. As the first match between the two universities that share the lion as their symbol clash together, expectations are high for a spirited and friendly competition.
What Is the Lion Match?
The Lion Match is a university sports exchange event between KHU and HYU, including HYU’s ERICA Campus, and will be held on November 19. Organized by the student associations of KHU College of Physical Education (CPE), HYU College of Performing Arts and Sport (CPAS), and ERICA Campus College of Sport & Art (CSA), the event will take place from 09:40 a.m. to 06:00 p.m. at KHU Global Campus.
The Lion Match aims to strengthen the bond between the two universities through sports. According to the CPE Student Association, “Since both KHU and HYU share the lion as their symbol, the match seeks to promote friendship while fostering cooperation and excitement through healthy competition under a shared identity.” They added that the event goes beyond simply winning or losing, bringing everyone together as one.
The main events of the Lion Match are basketball and football. The morning program will take place at Sunseung Building for the basketball game, while the afternoon program will be held on the soccer field in front of the KHU College of Engineering for the football game. These matches are divided into two categories: the athlete match and the student club match.
More Than Just Athletic Matches: A Festival for Everyone
Beyond the matches involving KHU and HYU’s athletes and student clubs, various programs have also been prepared for the audience to participate in. During the basketball game, a relay basketball event will take place, where spectators can participate in teams of four, including at least one female member. Each participant will attempt shots from four positions: under the basket, from the free-throw line, just inside the three-point line, and just beyond the three-point line. The team that successfully makes all shots within five minutes will be declared the winner.
A relay race will also be held during the football match. Spectators can participate in teams of six, consisting of three male and three female students. Each participant will run one lap around the field before passing the baton to the next runner, and the team that finishes first will win.
Those who wish to participate in the event can register through the Naver Form linked on the Instagram pages of KHU, HYU, and ERICA Campus student associations.
Spectators can receive the Lion Match wristband to enjoy various services. The wristbands can be collected after verifying a student ID or campus portal access at the information booth located in Sunseung Building from 9:30 a.m. and at the College of Engineering soccer field from 2:00 p.m. Those with the wristband can have lunch at the Student Center cafeteria, join the lucky draw and participatory booths, and receive official event goods.
The event has also introduced a dress code to enhance the competitive atmosphere, featuring colors that represent each university—burgundy for KHU and navy for HYU.
The First Lion Match Kicks Off: Looking Forward to Great Enthusiasm
As the kickoff match between the two universities draws near, the organizers are putting their utmost efforts into ensuring the event’s successful execution. The KHU CPE student association stated, “The Lion Match is significant as it marks the first university exchange program we have organized. We are putting all of our effort into making sure this event does not end as a one-time occasion, but rather serves as the foundation for future cooperation.”
The KHU CPE student association also expressed that they are looking forward to participants’ support, saying, “The event is not just a stage for competition, but a place to share sportsmanship and passion, marking the beginning of unity between the two universities. We hope that KHU students show great interest in our initiative and participate in the event regardless of their departments.”
The event was made possible through the strong support of the university and its alumni. “To achieve our annual goal of establishing a collaborative initiative with different colleges or universities, The Lion Match served as a key initiative. Behind the scenes, the CPE, the CPE Graduate School, the CPE Alumni Association, and the KHU Office of External Affairs provided significant support, which enabled us to realize our plan,” the CPE student association added, expressing their appreciation.
The sports match between KHU and HYU is just around the corner. With opportunities for spectators to enjoy both the games and various participatory activities, the event is expected to deliver an unexpectedly exciting experience for them. The Lion Match is expected to encourage further cooperation between the two universities by strengthening the symbolic bond they share.
