[People] Careernote: Revolutionizing Portfolio Creation for Students and Job Seekers
Careernote, developed by Team Bearable and co-founded by Kyung Hee University (KHU) alumnus Son Myung-ho and Jeong Suhyun, has been selected as one of the resident startups for the sixth Camper Class in the KHU Campus Town WE+ Project. The primary reason for joining the project was to network with other startup leaders and gain insights into company growth. As part of this initiative, Careernote, which is based in the Sameuiwon Startup Center at KHU Campus Town, is receiving support from the Campus Town Business Unit.
From Myfolio to Careernote
Careernote provides portfolio creation services for university students and job seekers. Son explained that Careernote embodies the idea of recording everyday experiences as part of one’s career. He added, “In fact, Careernote originated from Myfolio, a service that Team Bearable has been operating since last year.”
Myfolio is a student record management service designed to help high school students prepare for their future careers by utilizing their academic records. Jeong mentioned that Myfolio was developed to address educational inequality, offering a service that enables students to create the portfolios required for college admissions without private education. Since its launch, the number of users has steadily grown, eventually reaching approximately 6,000 users over the past nine months.
As Myfolio continued to grow, Team Bearable received a suggestion during the “2023 Companion Technology Expo” hosted by the Seoul Metropolitan Government that a similar service could benefit university students. Jeong noted that this suggestion played a key role in the creation of Careernote. Building on this, Son explained the development of Careernote, stating that it was developed to help university students and job seekers who struggle with portfolio creation to easily turn their experiences into a professional portfolio.
AI-driven Portfolio Creation: Efficiency and Affordability
Careernote utilizes artificial intelligence (AI) technology to automate the portfolio creation process, allowing users to complete their portfolios in just 10 to 15 minutes. By simply entering the required information, users can easily generate high-quality portfolios in a short amount of time.
Specifically, users need to provide the service with basic personal information, desired job roles, work experience, educational background, and target companies. They should also include details about specific projects they want to highlight in their portfolios, such as the duration, type of activity, project name, role, and a brief description of the activity.
With this information, the platform automatically generates various sections of the portfolio, including a slogan, cover letter, key competencies, job insights, and achievements. This streamlined process allows anyone using Careernote to quickly and efficiently create a professional portfolio.
In addition to its efficiency, Son highlighted Careernote’s strong price competitiveness. He emphasized, “There are many services that help students create portfolios, but most of them cost over 100,000 won. However, Careernote can generate a portfolio using AI for an average cost of just 20,000 to 30,000 won.” This affordability significantly reduces the financial burden on users, making it easier for more people to create portfolios.
Moreover, to further support students and job seekers, Son mentioned that they are currently running a free portfolio creation event. By clicking “Apply for Free Portfolio Creation” on the landing page linked from Careernote’s Instagram, filling out the basic information, and posting an application on the Careernote Naver Cafe board, anyone can take advantage of the free portfolio creation service. Through this initiative, Careernote is providing more users with the opportunity to experience their services firsthand.
The Pre-intern Program
Alongside its portfolio creation service, Careernote also operates a Pre-intern program, meaning an intern before the internship. The Pre-intern program separates students into teams to solve tasks given by participating companies, with one or two teams assigned to each task. Participants selected for the Pre-intern program can gain practical experience by working on these tasks and attending various training sessions and lectures, including job-related education. Son explained that beyond portfolio creation, participants can also experience interview preparation, allowing them to go through the entire job preparation process. He mentioned that the first cohort of Pre-interns has completed their activities, and the second cohort is currently being planned. Jeong added that they plan to further refine the program by assigning tasks according to the participants’ desired job sectors, enabling them to gain more specialized experience in their chosen fields.
Careernote offers various services to assist university students and job seekers in their employment efforts. Son highlighted the potential for Careernote’s future growth, stating, “Since the service is still under development, even more diverse services will be available in the future.” He mentioned that Careernote plans to continuously improve and expand its offerings according to the needs of its users. With its ongoing attempts and efforts, Careernote is expected to continue to play a key role in helping university students and job seekers effectively manage and develop their careers.
