On September 14, to mark the 60th anniversary of Kyung Hee University(KHU) College of Fine Arts(CFA), an opening ceremony for the exhibition Time-Archive 60, Declare Again was held at the KHU Museum of Art. The exhibition runs from September 14 to 23. This exhibition not only retraces the history of education, creative work, and research accumulated by the College over the past 60 years but also serves as an opportunity to explore a vision for the next generation based on that history. Spanning the first through fourth floors, the exhibition features artworks not only by KHU alumni but also by current students and emerging artists. As an exhibition capturing the 60-year history of the College, it is well worth a visit for any current KHU student.

About the Exhibition

This exhibition is hosted and organized by the CFA and the Institute of Contemporary Art, and was curated by Prof. Na Hyung-min. The most notable feature of this exhibition is its massive scale, featuring 138 participants, including current faculty members, professors, alumni artists, current students, and emerging artists.

Throughout the college’s 60-year history, it has produced countless creators, educators, and researchers who have made significant contributions not only to the Korean art scene but also to global culture as a whole. Organized to reflect on the college’s history and share a vision for the future, this exhibition features a diverse array of artworks displayed across all floors of the museum—ranging from masterpieces by CFA’s alumni to the groundbreaking works of emerging artists.

The first and second floors host a unifying alumni exhibition that reconnects alumni who have been scattered across their respective fields over the past 60 years. Artists spanning different eras have gathered in one place. This exhibition offers a chance to appreciate the works of senior alumni who have expanded the value and capabilities of Kyung Hee art.

The third floor features works by current students of the CFA. Amid an era of changing times marked by growing technological advancements and social uncertainty, this exhibition is designed to showcase the possibilities envisioned by current students—who will lead the new era—based on the values of creativity and humanity that Kyung Hee art has upheld.

On the fourth floor, the special exhibition A Record of Tastes: Today's Artist, Tomorrow's Collection, co-organized by KHU and the Korean Artists Sponsor Club, is on display, featuring works by 35 emerging artists, including 30 alumni. The works—which represent new trends in the art world and will form the basis of future collections—were displayed in a rhythmic arrangement. Each piece incorporates elements of the artist’s unique story, allowing the entire floor to create a cohesive flow and enabling visitors to construct their own narratives.

Notable Works at the Exhibition

The first and second floors of the exhibition feature works by outstanding alumni artists—including Yuk Geun-byeong, Park Eun-seon, Park Jong-hoe, Song Pil, and Kim Ju-ri.

First-Year Fall Rooftop Life Drawing Class

Among these, the painting “First-Year Fall Rooftop Life Drawing Class” by Park Young-kyun—an alumnus of the Dept. of Art Education—is sure to catch the eye of current KHU students. This is because the painting captures the view of the University that the artist saw from the window of the art studio during his freshman year. The campus scene—where the artist’s artistic journey began—depicts the construction of Grand Peace Hall, evoking a sense that is both familiar and fresh. It also offers a chance to glimpse the deepest memories: the hope that connects us to the world through the window, the very source of the artist’s paintings, and the rekindling of youth.

On one wall of the third-floor, a variety of works are displayed all at once, breaking from the flow of previous exhibitions. This is an intentional arrangement, designed not only to break the monotony of the exhibition but also because this space is dedicated exclusively to showcasing works by current KHU students. The new resonance that KHU students offer visitors through of their works reveals the exhibition’s theme: the convergence of generations, education and the market, and documentation and practice—all under one roof.

The special curated exhibition A Record of Tastes on the fourth floor engages with contemporary collecting culture by providing artist notes for each work via QR codes. Visitors can scan the QR codes to read not only the artist’s key biographical information but also artist notes written by the artist themselves, as well as a critical essay by art historian Lee Sang-min. Additionally, an art essay contest featuring the works in this special exhibition is currently underway.

The Significance of This Exhibition

This exhibition is significant because it goes beyond simply showcasing artworks; its purpose is to support future generations by strengthening the alumni network and raising development funds. The participating artists have decided to designate a portion of the proceeds from the sale of their works and small works as a designated donation to the University’s development fund and the department’s scholarship fund, aimed at fostering future talent and improving the educational environment.

Through this exhibition, current KHU students have gained a valuable opportunity to sell their own works. Shin Yun-hee, a graduate student majoring in Sculpture who exhibited her work “Hanging Quietly”, shared her thoughts: “Through this exhibition and the opportunity provided by the University, I was not only able to express myself freely and joyfully during the process of submitting my work, but it was also meaningful and enjoyable to meet representatives from commercial galleries.”

Through this exhibition, the CFA is archiving its 60-year history of accumulated artistic assets and presenting a vision for the next 100 years through intergenerational artistic exchange. This exhibition not only conveys the history of the college but also effectively communicates the vision presented by the new generation.
