As the result of the 2026 Kyung Hee University (KHU) Seoul Campus 58th General Student Association (GSA) by-election, Presidential Candidate Shin, Chang-hoon (Dept. of Public Administration) and Vice-presidential Candidate Han, Soo-yeon (Dept. of Hospitality Management) from Mate campaign headquarters were elected. The election which held from March 30 to April 2 concluded successfully with a final voter turnout of 50.7% after a one-day extension.
Turnout Reaches Threshold After Extension Period
The election was originally scheduled to take place from March 30 to April 1. However, on the final day, April 1, voter turnout reached only 46.94%, failed to reach the required 50% needed to proceed vote counting. According to the Seoul Campus Election Rules (ER), if voter turnout does not exceed 50% of the entire electorate participates in the voting, the voting period may be extended by one day.
Accordingly, the voting period for the by-election was extended until 6 p.m. on April 2. By the end of the extended period, voter turnout reached 50.7%, meeting the requirement for vote counting. The vote counting took place at 7 p.m. in Room 111 of Orbis Hall. The Mate campaign headquarters received 6,847 affirmative votes (92.58%), 297 votes against (4.02%), and 252 abstentions out of 7,396 total votes. As a result of the vote count, Mate was officially elected as the 58th GSA of KHU Seoul Campus.
Elected Candidates Shared Their Commitments
Shin, Chang-hoon, elected as president of the 58th GSA, stated, “I take every single vote from students very seriously,” adding, “I will do my best to fulfill each and every promise we made during the campaign.”
Han, Soo-yeon, elected as vice president, said, “I will build a student association that continuously listens to students’ concerns and works to resolve them.”

The term of the newly elected 58th GSA, Mate, will begin after a four-day objection period following the official announcement of the election results. As the election of Mate marks a new beginning after the invalidation of last December’s election due to irregularities, attention is focused on whether it will be able to restore trust in student governance.
