The main voting for the 2026 Kyung Hee University (KHU) Global Campus by-election has closed. The by-elections for three colleges and 11 departments (schools) met the quorum, announcing the launch of new student associations. However, the General Student Association (GSA) voting period has been extended due to low voter turnout.
GSA Election Enters Extended Voting with 44.49% Turnout
According to the Global Campus Election Rules (ER), vote counting can only proceed if the voter turnout of the entire electorate exceeds 50%. However, the final voter turnout for this GSA election, conducted entirely online, reached only 44.49%. As the threshold for vote counting was not met, the Global Campus Central Election Management Committee (CEMC) decided to extend the voting period in accordance with the ER. Consequently, whether the Route campaign headquarters, the sole candidate, is elected will only be determined after the extended voting period ends.

Three College By-Elections Exceed 50% Turnout, Confirming All Elections
In contrast to the GSA election, the by-elections for three colleges all surpassed the turnout requirement. According to the CEMC's vote-counting results, the College of Electronics & Information, the College of International Studies, and the College of Applied Science recorded final turnouts of 52.67%, 53.72%, and 54.94%, respectively. All three colleges stably exceeded the 50% threshold, and the campaign headquarters, which ran as sole candidates in each constituency, secured more than two-thirds of valid affirmative votes to confirm their elections side by side.
All 11 Departmental Student Associations Elected
The departmental by-elections also successfully met the turnout requirement. The 10 departments that held single-candidate elections—the Dept. of Astronomy & Space Science (77.39%), Dept. of Textile & Clothing Design (66.19%), Dept. of Nuclear Engineering (64.62%), Dept. of Chinese Language & Literature (64.45%), Dept. of Environmental Science & Engineering (64.12%), Dept. of Applied Physics (60.82%), Dept. of Postmodern Music (55.42%), Dept. of Industrial and Management Systems Engineering (58.11%), Dept. of Smart Farm Science (55.94%), and Dept. of Sports Medicine (54.70%)—all surpassed the 50% turnout rate, passing the election of their respective candidates. In particular, the School of Mechanical Engineering election, the only contested election in this by-election, recorded a turnout of 58.01%, meeting the vote-counting requirement. As a result of the vote count, the campaign headquarters MEGA was ultimately elected.
Through this by-election, the new student associations of three colleges and 11 departments (schools) confirmed their election, but the GSA constituency entered extended voting due to insufficient voter turnout. Although the final result of the GSA election has been postponed until after the extended voting, the full-scale launch of student autonomy at the Global Campus for the 2026 academic year has begun with the newly formed student associations at the college and departmental levels. Attention is focused on the outcome of the GSA election during the remaining extended voting period.
